Travelling is like life, you have good and bad moments but the most of the days are normal days. Last days I have not been very inspired due to being inspired or long time travelling. However, energy and inspiration come back when the body and soul are ready. Last weeks I have been travelling in the French Indochine: Cambodia and Vietnam.
As any other colony in the world it is possible to see what the colonialist made to the locals: killing, torture, exploitation... but it's possible to see other facts: men playing petanque in the villages, baguette, croisant, eating frog legs in restaurants, french arquitecture... many details reminding France but with lower quality.
15 anyos despues ahi estoy yo. Que grande es viajar!
Cambodia is a country where everybody uses dollars. The local currency is less important. At the ATM's you can withdraw dollars and you pay with dollars in restaurants, hotels, shops or street food. It is a very poor country and very dirty (nothing to compare with India, that's impossible). I felt very happy when I visited the Angkor wat temples. That was a special moment as I remembered when I was a child and I used to watch documentaries abouth far places. 15 years later here I am. Just great!

Victimas del genocidio khmer. |
Cambodia has a very sad past. A man, Pol Pot, and all his fanantic colleagues commited a genocide of 3 millions people. Only because one idea: agrarian revolution. For example, they killed whoever able to speak different languages or wearing glasses as this was being intelectual. They did not want the population to study, only to work in the field, and that's why they emptied the cities. A very hard past but I liked the country.

Mis respetos a Ho Chi Minh. |
In Vietnam I understood what travelling means to me: freedom. Feel free to make decisions according to my needs or wishes. However, it is very difficult to travel in Vietnam, as everything is organised and you become a tourist prisoner. Moreover, lies and charging double is common by everyone in touristic areas. I must say that visiting Halong Bay and the caves of Phong Nha National Park is an astonishing experience. Both places are wonders of nature.
Relieves en los templos. |
Vietnam is full of tourism around the war with the US: museums, war zones, tunnels... y lots of communist propaganda. Ho Chi Minh face is everywhere. It has a nice landscape but I did not feel very comfortable in it.
Arboles creciendo sobre los templos. |
Que estara pensando el monje? |
Only two weeks left in Asia and I really feel that I would like to discover somewhere else. Tourism in southeast Asia is very big and the society is a bit corrupted. Also, the customer service is not very good, I think. Here, the customer is never right. Sorry for those ones who love Thailand, Vietnam or Malaysia but not for me. Only once!
Saludos,
Take care,
Roman.
